Learn MoreI often push HP5 to 1600 and 3200 in Ilford LC29 developer, and usually get pretty good results. However, I am not making prints-- just scanning the negatives. I don't know how well these would print in the old-fashioned way. For pushing to 1600, I use dilution 1:19 for 14 minutes, 20C. For 3200, dilution 1:9 for 11.5 - 12.5 minutes.

Learn MoreAll images in this post are shot with a Nikon F4 on Ilford HP5+ at ISO 1600 with a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 macro and developed in Ilfotec DD-X at 1:4 at 68 degrees for 13 minutes. I was happy with the results from DD-X when used with my current agitation method. For my tastes, the grain is nice and smooth and tones pretty much what I expected.
Learn MoreILFORD HP5 PLUS - EI 6400 - ILFORD DD-X 1+4 - Mamiya 645 Super If you embrace that grain, you might consider shooting on the street at 1600/3200 all the time: both a great look and wide depth of field are yours, in almost any conditions. If you want some details in shadows though, I believe that EI 800 is optimal for push processing.
Learn MoreWe chose this one as Ilford have a recommended time for Ilford HP5 at 1600. Definitely a good fit. We got really crisp grain and excellent
Learn MoreI rarely push film, but I recently shot a roll of Ilford HP5 + and for no good reason decided to shoot it at 1600. After removing the finished 24-exposure roll from my Olympus OM -1 and developing it in stock Kodak D-76 for 14 minutesI was pleasantly surprised. Giddy, even. Of course there's grain! But I absolutely love the look.
Learn MoreIlford HP5 Plus is a really easy film to use. It's forgiving, you can push or pull it several stops, it's readily available,
Learn MoreTo cope with that, I am often pushing the film 2 stops and shooting it at 1600 ISO. Again, to avoid too many variables I have not experimented
Learn MoreMy question, is what pushes better: Tri-X or HP5? most likely be pushing to EI 1600. Or, would I just get Ilford 3200 Delta and pull it to 1600?
Learn MoreAye, you definitely want DDX. Ilford themselves say that Ilfosol-S should be used with Pan F, FP4+ and Delta 100 only for best results. I've
Learn MoreClick to enlarge Pushing Ilford HP5 Ilford HP5+ is a 400 ISO film, which means shooting and developing it at 1600 is pushing it 2 full stops. This means I'm intentionally underexposing my film in camera, and adding more time in development to compensate. (You can learn more about pushing film here !)
Learn MoreIlford HP5+ 400 is my favourite black and white film to shoot. I paired Ilford HP5+ 400 with my Minolta X-700 with Minolta MD 28mm F2.8 Lens. I love shooting the 28mm focal length for street photography. The last time I pushed Ilford HP5+ 400 to 1600 was back in January 2020.
